Taiji and Qigong are relaxing and meditative practices that can reduce anxiety, improve balance, improve breathing, and focus the mind.

I learned Taiji from the owners of Peak Performance in New Brighton, MN and from their teacher Hirokazu Kanazawa from Japan. The style is known by several names: Yang 24 Step, Beijing Simplified 24 Form, or Peking 24 Form. It was brought from China to Japan by Master Ming-Shi Yang where it is known as Kuoku Ken. Hirokazu Kanazawa learned directly from Ming-Shi Yang. Here is a YouTube link that demonstrates the style: Yang 24 Step .

I learned Qigong from Master Jwing -Ming Yang. Like taiji, qigong uses slow movements coordinated with breathing. I cycle through several different sets of exercises in my classes to give students a wide repertoire. Here is a link to the Yang Martial Arts Association: ymaa.com.
